Relish Pickleball!
Well-being by way of a court and paddle… yes! Pickleball is the latest rage on the courts, but especially for those in active adult communities!
Not only is the game fun and easy for active adults to play, it can potentially contribute to heart health! According to a pilot study by North Carolina State University researchers, it helped a group of adults reach their recommended weekly dose of moderate to vigorous physical exercise! “There are three important factors for successful healthy aging, No. 1 is physical health, and staying not just physically active, but engaging in physical activity where your heart rate is raised, which is called moderate to vigorous physical activity.” says Jonathan Casper, associate professor of parks, recreation and tourism management at NC State.
According to Silver Sneakers, the social component of pickleball is not to be underrated as it can cut risk of depression and lessen feelings of loneliness, which can be an epidemic in older adults who live alone. Further, Casper notes “There is also a social component, which is maintaining and creating social connections, and psychological health, or a feeling of well-being and life satisfaction.”
At the Floridian Club, we strive to provide wellness and socialization opportunities for our Members! In our community, we have three pickleball courts, and a Member run club that meets daily! We have teams that play “just for fun” and teams that play at a higher skill level and we are in the midst of planning a pickleball tournament for Members of all skill levels!
With Summer temperatures averaging in the mid-90 degrees, Floridian Club pickleball players are even more fortunate, as The Pickleball Club, a private indoor club for those who seek premier pickleball and social experiences, will be opening their Venice location, less than half a mile from The Club, in July 2024! The 40,000-square-foot climate-controlled facility with 14 indoor pickleball courts allowing for year-round climate-controlled play!
